Fighting foam on manure: here's how to proceed

Foaming on manure: dangerous, but easy to solve!

The cold weather often brings with it an increase in foaming on manure - just when the manure basements are getting full. Foam on manure is not only annoying, but can also pose serious risks, such as explosions or fatalities from toxic gases. At Indufarm, we offer not only the right solutions, but also extensive knowledge about the causes and dangers of foaming.

What causes foaming?

Foam results from gas formation and substances that lower the surface tension of manure. This can be due to, among other things:
✅ Undigested feed residues in manure, often caused by ration changes or spilled feed.
✅ Surfactants in the ration or added via rinse water and feed residues.
✅ Low temperatures and deep manure pits, which exacerbate foaming.

Why is foaming dangerous?

The foam contains methane, a flammable gas, and hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), which can be lethal to humans and animals. These odourless gases spread unnoticed and quickly make a barn environment unsafe. Prevention or control is therefore vital!

Simple and effective solution

With Antifoam BA from Indufarm, you control foaming in an efficient way. These antifoaming agents:
✔ Reduce foaming thanks to powerful fatty acid derivatives and fatty alcohols.
✔ Are easy to apply with a pressure sprayer or watering can.
