5 tips for cleaning your stable

Cleaning and disinfection not only reduce the infection pressure in the animals' environment, thus preventing diseases and discomfort, but it is also nicer to work in a clean environment. Whether you are a pig, cattle or poultry farmer, here are 5 tips for a squeaky clean environment for your animals.

Tip 1: Clean not only floors, but also walls and ceilings

Proper cleaning and disinfection applies not only to your floor, but also to the rest of the barn environment. It is often overlooked that the walls and ceiling also need a thorough cleaning. After all, germs can settle anywhere. Having trouble reaching the ceiling? Then you can always opt for a telescopic lance (even up to 5.5 metres) so you don't have to worry about height.

Tip 2: Get a quality soap with dynamic lather

An essential step in cleaning your barn is soaping. The goal? Thanks to foam penetrating the hardest-to-reach cavities of your floor, wall, or ceiling surfaces. A strong remedy for this is Fullclean Foam Strong. The dynamic foam adheres for a very long time, even up to 2 hours after application. This soaking agent is also ideal for plastic walls. Due to the long soaking period, the active components can act on the dirt longer and the surface remains moist.

Tip 3: Disinfect your working equipment

Not only do the floors, walls and ceilings of your stables deserve a thorough cleaning, but often a pack of germs stick to your working equipment. One of the thorough disinfectants that can be used for this purpose is Chriox 5. This oxidative disinfectant is recognised against bacteria, viruses, yeasts and moulds. This is a very strong disinfectant based on peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide. Be sure to rinse the disinfectant off with water afterwards.

Tip 4: Get a good coating for prevention

Not only rinsing the foam can be considered the final step in the cleaning process. You can clean horizontal surfaces with sodium hydroxide beads, also called caustic soda, or caustic soda. It is a powerful, non-foaming alkaline product of based on NaOH. It is a technical product used as a raw material for the removal of organic dirt such as worms, dysentery and coccidiosis. Note: do not use this product as a biocide and store it in a cool and dry place because of its hygroscopic nature.

Tip 5: Get a good coating for prevention

Again, the cliché applies: prevention is better than cure. Applying a coating not only protects the concrete from aggressive influences, but also makes it pore-free. This prevents micro-organisms from nesting in the animals' habitat. In short, a precautionary measure that is very effective in the long term, but also cost-saving at the same time.
